DJI, a drone company, has become one of the largest in its industry. We have reviewed an interview from South China Morning Post with the founder, Frank Wang Tao. We went through every question that the original author, Celia Chen, could have asked and refined with some of our own questions.
From the article we discovered online, we have discovered some key points which includes how DJI played a big part for the drone industry as one could say, “The Apple of drone companies.” We discussed about what inspired Wang to make drones and some of the difficulties he faced. What does DJI have for the future? Wang’s enterprise partnership manager, Bill Chen, mentioned, “The use of drones in agriculture will be a particular focus for the company.” Another factor that was brought up in the interview was the trade tension between China and the US, and how DJI plans to resolve the issue.
We have come up with a few questions about the topic.
Why did DJI change their focus to agriculture for the possible future?
It was brought up by Wang but the interviewer did not ask much about it which we were disappointed to see since it was the future of the company.
What kept you going when you were adventuring into the drone industry when it was small?
We all know that the drone industry blew up in popularity about a few years ago but Wang had plans to make products like drones since when he was a kid.
How did you find your inspiration from being rejected to MIT and Harvard?
Being rejected by a university you want to get into despite having bad grades is still a hardship that people have trouble going through, what got him push through these times and became the CEO of a top-end company of the industry.
If you had any resource available, what sort of drone would you like to build next?
We are asking this question because DJI is meeting the customers’ expectations with excellence. We want to know what their dream projects/concepts would look like if they had the access to any technology or resource they needed.
How did you get the idea of a quadcopter like the drone?
As we have seen in the past before DJI was a company, quadcopters were not really possible as most companies required more than four motor to sustain the drone’s weight. We want to know how Wang got the idea for the possibility to make this happen and additionally added stabilization to keep the drone afloat.
Do you believe in a future where drones do all the delivery for us?
Like packages, letters, even pizza?
It was first proposed by Amazon to have drones deliver online orders. Then it took off from there with delivery companies using drones for items. Even Pizza Hut discussed about using drones for pizza delivery. We want to know how drones will play a role in the near future and how it would benefit us, because drone’s have become a big part of technology.
DJI, despite being being a big leading company, it still believes in exploring different segments and needs within the community and we believe that the effort that they keep while being the best is what makes DJI the best at its game.
